Reading Festival

Reading Festival is one of the famous festivals which take place annual. Reading music festivals take place in Reading in England. The events take place on consecutive three days Friday, Saturday and Sunday of the month of August on bank holiday weekend. The Reading Festival take place at Little John’s Farm on Richfield Avenue in central Reading which is next to the Caver sham Bridge.

The Reading Festival is the world’s oldest and most popular festival. People enjoyed the reading festival very much. Due to its various combinations of musical phases like, rock, alternative, indie, punk and metal over many years, People of all ages like this festival. In 2011, total capacity of reading was about 87,000 and the lead festival was near about 75,000. Festival Republic, which runs the festivals, now thinking to increase the capacity further more.

The Reading Festival originates from the National Jazz Festival, which was conceived by Harold Pendleton (founder of the Marquee Club in London). In 1961, it was first held at Richmond Athletic Ground. This festival took inspiration from the events which took place in USA.

In 1970, the line up consists of progressive rock, blues and heavy metal bands. In 1978, new addition of punk bands have been added up to reading festival line up. 1980 was similar to 1970 era. In 1991, Britpop band such as Suede and Blur have been introduced and they introduced themselves for the very first time in the festival. They were really appreciated by the people. If we look at 2000 line-up, it seems that reading festival predominantly rock line-up, though as the decade has progressed the Main Stage and Radio 1 Stage line-up has featured mostly Indie artists. However, one day (Sunday) is still traditionally set aside for hard rock and metal. In 2007, due to torrential weather situation many people raised the concerns of reading site. In 2008, reading tickets had been released in market and the most amazing thing was that, they were sold out in less than 2 hours. March 29, 2010 was the day when 2010 reading festival line-up was announced and after that announcement tickets were on sale.
